Measuring the coating of spectacle lenses
Quality assurance – measuring the coating of spectacle lenses or other active optics
INTRODUCTION
The quality of the coatings of spectacle lenses, other active optics (lenses) or filters must be clearly defined during the coating process to ensure that the functionality of the coatings, the continuity of the production process and thus the customers’ requirements are met. The samples of the on-going production process can be measured in batches. Gradients across the coated surfaces can be identified and corrected immediately.
Corrective settings for the coating parameters of coating systems can therefore be obtained very promptly. 100% inspection and 100% documentation are possible as a result of the simplicity and speed of this measuring method.
THE METHOD
Coated lenses are measured in reflected or transmitted light (using different 0° or 30°/ 30° measuring heads), depending on the type of coating.
Reflection:
* Anti-reflection coating
* Thick protective coatings (hard coatings, e.g. scratch resistant coatings on polycarbonate)
* UV protection coatings
* Coatings for phototropic lenses.
Transmission:
Colour measurement on coated or subsequently tinted lenses
* UV protection coatings
* Coatings for phototropic lenses.
Data is evaluated using a standard software. Integrationin own software solutions through C++ DLL or Labview DLL is also possible.
THE SYSTEM
We recommend a simultaneous spectrometer system for the measuring range between 230 nm and 1680 nm. The systems can be triggered and integrated into semi- or fully automatic processes.
